I'm running Lollipop on my galaxy s6. Doesn't matter whether I delete the emails from my compute or from my telephone--they nonetheless show upwards on my phone. I'one thousand using the Gmail app to access my hotmail / outlook account.

Anyone knows what the heck is happening?

Y'all are probably using POP3 e-mail service instead of IMAP. Also, in server settings, there'southward probably an option to 'Sync deletions with server' (or like). Enable it. If information technology's already enabled, it's simply not working correctly. This is not really unusual, the option is kinda iffy and if it fails there zippo you tin can practise.

Warning: If for case, you lot enable this selection and read electronic mail on your calculator and delete it, deleted email volition not be available to read later on anywhere else. It'due south gone.

If you tin, switching to IMAP e-mail service would be improve since it automatically syncs to all devices.

If you already are using IMAP, then you have a different problem.

The incoming server address is imap-mail.outlook.com, so it'due south imap. And in that location's no such choice for sync deletions with server or anything similar to that.

OK, IMAP service it is. And since it is, the 'Sync deletions with server' choice should not be in that location.

So... Am I correct that when y'all delete email it stays in the inbox? Or is deleted mail being moved to a 'Deleted' folder?

And I doubtable the answer to this is No, but is this an Active Sync Outlook account?

No, the deleted post stays where information technology is. I'm not sure what an active sync outlook business relationship is. Yes, under settings > accounts, this account is called to be synced (everything: contacts, mail, etc.).

When I first got Android 5 on my Nexus 5 at that place was a parameter for "leave bulletin on server" or "delete from server when deleted from device". Those quotes aren't really quotes simply it said something like that. And then, I checked, "leave message on server". I went to the declension to meet my sister and checked electronic mail on my phone for a couple of weeks. When I got home I learned that what I'd deleted, including some important revenue enhancement information, was not withal on the server. Information technology was gone. I came to this site and was advised to get IMAP. Lord knows, I tried but I could never get it to piece of work with Outlook and made an ungodly mess. Really, information technology was big plenty it might accept been a godly mess.

Then I noticed that the parameter for "leave..." or "delete...." was no longer in Android 5. And so, while I still accept an active IMAP account with my Internet access provider I went back to POP3. And so, just this week, I noticed that all of a sudden, messages deleted on my telephone were non being deleted from the server and would yet be downloaded to my desktop. I looked under "accounts" and found no parameter for "go out...." or "delete..."

Apparently, Android has been change from Android five to 5.01 to 5.1.

Information technology'south rare I get an email on my desktop before I get it on my phone just I'll endeavour ignoring the one on the telephone, deleting it on my desktop and run across if it stays on the server.

You didn't say what email client y'all're using. Knowing that would assistance. I don't know of any significant changes in the default Gmail app from 5.0 to 5.one. From your post, I tin't tell if your bug have anything to do with Android itself or not, just it's doubtful.

Depending on what email client you:re using an option to "Delete from server when deleted on device" may or may not exist available when using IMAP service. Some accept information technology, some don't.

The "Leave message on server" option is for POP3 service. Once again, it'south not e'er at that place and is kinda iffy, it doesn't always piece of work

When yous gear up "Get out message on server" and it was gone a couple of weeks later on, it might exist because the business relationship is setup to clear deleted mail later a certain time, say vii days or ten days and so express storage on the server is not filled and postal service does not become rejected. POP3 accounts often have very little storage. IMAP normally has large, sometimes unlimited storage.

You should definitely go with IMAP if at all possible. It's capable of doing much more than POP3. It will sync your email across all devices and computers, keep everything on the server, button notifications and more than than POP3 but can't.

I don't know what your trouble was with it, but information technology'due south normally very piece of cake to setup. Initial setup should be automatic.

You didn't exactly say, but I think you might be using an outlook.com e-mail address. If you want to use IMAP with Outlook.com, hither are the settlings:

    Incoming IMAP
    Server: imap-mail.outlook.com
    Server port: 993
    Encryption: SSL

    Approachable SMTP
    Server: smtp-mail.outlook.com
    Server port: 587
    Encryption: TLS

Android since v1.0. Linux since 2001.

When you lot set "Get out bulletin on server" and it was gone a couple of weeks afterward, information technology might be considering the account is setup to articulate deleted mail subsequently a certain fourth dimension, say 7 days or 10 days then limited storage on the server is not filled and mail does non get rejected. POP3 accounts frequently have very picayune storage. IMAP usually has large, sometimes unlimited storage.

You should definitely go with IMAP if at all possible. It's capable of doing much more than than POP3. Information technology volition sync your email across all devices and computers, keep everything on the server, push notifications and more than POP3 just can't.

I don't know what your problem was with it, but information technology'south normally very easy to setup. Initial setup should be automatic.

You didn't exactly say, only I recollect you might be using an outlook.com electronic mail address. If you desire to apply IMAP with Outlook.com, hither are the settlings:

    Incoming IMAP
    Server: imap-mail service.outlook.com
    Server port: 993
    Encryption: SSL

    Outgoing SMTP

    Server port: 587
    Encryption: TLS

Android since v1.0. Linux since 2001.

If you were talkinga bout me, I think i did mention that I'm using the latest Gmail app. I have an @hotmail.com account and my settings are exactly as y'all say there are, except for the encryption (SSL/TLS for incoming and STARTTLS for outgoing).

Right at present, for example, I'm looking at my hotmail inbox on my computer and it'due south empty (has been empty for 2 hours). On my Gmail app, my hotmail inbox has 4 emails (and yes, information technology has been synced).

Actually, I was replying to ptkelly.

I don't know what's up with your Hotmail. Your inboxes and folders should match if everything syncing as intended. I'm kinda stumped on this one.
